Germans rushed the technological marvel into production late in the war. The type xxi were revolutionary submarines, concentrating many innovations to revert the battle of the atlantic, but they arrived too late. These submarines were the first submarines designed to operate primarily submerged, rather than spending most of their time on the surface and only submerging for brief. It was scuttled at the end of the war, having never gone on patrol. The submarine became the first to operate faster under water than on it and opened the doors to a new chapter in submarine warfare and design.
