Fix a problem watch videos manage your account & settings supervised experiences on youtube youtube premium create & grow your channel monetize with the youtube partner program Description there seems to be a memory leak when chat is active on youtube live stream When chat is open on a popular stream (i.e Ryan hall y'all) the memory usage for that tab climbs with occasional very slight drops but generally increasing to 1gb+ in under 3 minutes. The windows explorer, dwm.exe and windows compatibility telemetry (compattelrunner.exe) was also observed taking up high cpu and memory I was wondering if this has something to do with the renowned memory leak issue
It worries me if the high cpu/gpu system usage for normal use like browsing/youtube affects the system performance or hardware. I think for some reason the memory leak happens depending on the signed in youtube/google account. With that said i'm afraid i won't be able to offer much help in that capacity, but perhaps this information will be helpful for others that are experiencing the same that haven't noticed what's triggering their memory leak for them like it is for me. I've been having an issue, specifically on opera gx (probably happens on chrome too idk) where whenever i use my arrow keys, a massive memory leak happens and my ram usage goes up to 6.5gbs, doesn't go further than that with my testing as the tab just dies. If anyone wants a temporary workaround for fixing the memory leak crash with live chat you can download an extension such as tampermonkey on chrome and install the youtube super fast chat (basically a performance lift script, not mine) It has a patch which include a fix for the current memory issues.
In about:processes, firefox shows most all of this memory use in the gpu process, going over 3 gb in that one process alone after only minutes of watching a video Closing just the youtube tab reduces all firefox memory usage even with multiple open tabs to ~600 mb.
