A cam carrier (sometimes called a cam holder) is a critical component in newer subaru engines that houses the camshafts Leaking cam carriers and leaking torque converter, i tried really hard to get a warranty extension, but soa would only offer 1k toward the 1800$ repair.of the cam carriers alone. Took my 2020 blazer with 3.6l v6 in for oil change today at the dealer and they told me the camshaft carrier was leaking They showed me on the front of the engine where the leak was. I recently bought a 100k milage subaru legacy from a private party After taking it to the dealer, they told me that there is oil leak from the cam carrier and they quoted 3000$ for the fix.
All those leaks were fixed and a ton of orings were replaced Now, i'm getting oil dripping after i park and when i took my car back to the shop, they said the cam carrier on the passenger side is leaking Please help me understand this My paperwork said the cam seals were replaced Wouldn't that include the cam carriers? Today i went to the dealer to perform a couple recall/warranty repairs
They estimated this to be around. Sorry to hear it, paul This is quite common on subarus On these horizontally opposed engines, a cam holder is bolted to the top of each cylinder head There's a seal between the cam holder and the head That seal is what's leaking
The reason it's a big job is because you have to remove the timing belt to get at the cam covers And that's a lot of work Because it's an enormous pain in the. The problem was supposedly fixed before the 2018 model year but i have a good friend with a 2018 outback and his vehicle needed the cam carrier leak fixed around 18 months ago. I recently however ran across references to the leaking cam carrier seals on the newer engines to be honest, i follow subaru fairly closely and do not recall reading about leaking cam carrier seals on any of the forums i follow After researching on here and reading whatever i can, i think my driver side cam carrier is seeping oil on top and possibly on the bottom of the engine
